Speakers on a Clio
2 Answers
I've just bought a Renault Clio and a stereo - four outputs on the stereo, two speakers in the Clio. Put another pair of speakers in the back and tried to do the wiring - each of the front speakers has four cables, two into each contact on the speaker which are the same colour - only connect two of them and there is silence - any idea what I should do??

Most stereos have eight wires - two for each speaker of four. Do you have a wiring diagram for the stereo? Sometimes the colour coding of the wires is on a label. You must connect the correct two wires to a speaker to get an output, if you connect two - wires or two + wires you will get silence, so that may be the problem. What colour are the various wires? They are often coded in pairs with one having a contrasting stripe, or there may be a + or - printed on the wire. Might be able to help more with more information.
thanks smorodina - that's about as far as I got - I shall go back out with a multimeter and try and work out what the hell is going on - I just thought that there might be a trick I didn't know of! there are two colours going into each speaker, with the same colour going into each terminal - left hand side two pink into one and two white into the other. There maybe a setting somewhere on the stereo head unit - or a cable may have a break.
