Fruit and Pregnancy

We were out for a meal tonight and a complimentary dish of fruit was served at the end of the meal. My daughter is pregnant and I told her not to eat the strawberries because of her condition. Everyone looked at me as if I was mad (?) but I'm sure there was a superstition about pregnancy and certain fruits.

Can you help prove or disprove my madness.

No sorry Cristo, all fruit is fine. Its things like raw meat, certain fish, soft cheeses, pate and unwashed vegetables which are to be avoided. Keep looking after your daughter though. All the best for her pregnancy x
You aren't supposed to give babies strawberries are you?  Because of the seeds, I think them can cause colic or something.  Maybe that's where you're getting it from?
I am not trusting enough of a restaurants standards of care to think that a pregnant woman would be safe eating raw fruit! Okay if it is something that has been or can be peeled, but I would probably stay clear of the strawberries!
the old myth was that if you ate strawberries when pregnant your baby would have a strawberry birthmark.
Don't know where this came from and can't believe anybody would take it seriously.

it's strawberries whilst breastfeeding; apparantly it can give the baby diarhorrea.  No worries with eating them when pregnant.

It's fine to eat raw fuit and veg...you guys are just being paranoid! They're full of vitamins and goodness...munch away....
yes it is fine to eat raw fruit and veg provided that you are sure that what you eat is clean and free from pesticide...hence my comment

I don't know that anything is free from pestacides these days :( unless you grow it yourself i guess.

I think you lot might have confused Cristo even more than she was to start with LoL x I'm certainly confused.

Lots of birthmark superstitions about - my boyfriend once startled someone with a toy spider, and she was horrified as the baby she was carrying would get a spider-shaped birthmark!

(Spookily, she did)
