Dough cake

Way back in the dark ages, 1950s. I worked at the local Co-op bakery where they used to make Dough cake, nearest thing is I suppose Bread pudding but doughcake was much more dense, much firmer and when you'd a slice you knew you'd had it. Can't find anything out about it, nobodys even heard of it. Not Lardy cake!

I don't know if the recipes listed on this link are anything like the cake you want, but it is all I could find
