going back a year or two there was a car ad featuring a woman who had just got divorced. She was laughing while she put her wedding ring down a grate and then she drove off in her car. all the while a particular song was playing and i can't remember what it was. can anyone help? thanks
You're thinking of the 1987 Volkswagen advert. Paula Hamilton was the girl and Alan Price sang the song which started "Everyone is going through changes". I'm not sure of the title of the song but looking around the www suggests the title may be simply Changes. He changed the words for the advert. it's certainly an old piece of music because soldiers in the First World War sang it to different and usually ironic words. You may remember it as "When this lousy war is over" from the Richard Attenborough film "Oh, What a Lovely War".
Got it. The original song comes from a poem by the irish poet, Joseph Scriven, who wrote it in 1855. Charles Converse put the music to the words in 1868 and the hymn
What a Friend We Have in Jesus was born.
