Anyone been here? What's it like and how long does one need to have a proper look round? Thanks!

It's pretty bohemian in places, the centre is quite like NYC without the people or the attitude and there is lots to do.
If you are just going to Seattle then 3 full days will get round the obvious things (Space Needle, Music museum, Fish Market) with time to relax. If you want to do the greater area and visit some of the mountains etc then a week minimum depending on your attitude to driving.
I stayed at the YHA right in the heart of town and it was really impressive and cheap too. I don't know what you are into though, arts/culture/music/shopping etc - it's got it all.

It's a wonderful city of great beauty! Especially if you are fortunate enough to be there when it's not raining. From downtown Seattle one can see Mt. Ranier on the distant penisula. Be sure to see Pike Place Market, Whidbey Island, The Underground, whale watching near the San Juan Islands, and, if you have time, a side trip to Victoria, B.C. Canada.

Welcome!
I'm actually going to Vancouver in July but there is a shuttle bus that goes to Seattle from Vancouver. I'm trying to decide whether to go or not, as time is limited with the majority of my visit touring Canada. Seattle is full of things to do, so I don't think I would do it justice if I just went for 2 nights. Perhaps leave it for another time? I really fancy going to all the different attractions including the Boeing Factory. I am into all those things you mentioned - arts/culture/music/shopping and I would love to visit the Olympic National Forest. It might depress me if I don't get to do it all!
