The research in the US said we needed to drink 2 litres of LIQUID per day,it did not state 2 Litres of WATER!
It said Liquids included juices from eating fruit and veg,and any othe Liquids consumed by eating any other food.
In other words the 2 Litres was Liquids(as above) AND Water, not 2 Litres of Water alone.
Ihope this is clear?
mystress is correct. This is a very important point. Drinking too much water is dangerous to your health.
However the advice on this is muddled and contrdictory - the National Kidney Research Fund recommends that people drink two litres of water, others say 1.5 litres.
The BBC did some experiments with this - see http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/shouldiworrya bout/water.shtml
Everything you eat contributes to your liquid intake, Adding an extra 2 litres of water may be too much, but it depends on how much you excrete. A runner will need more than someone in an aircon office. I guess drink what you feel comfortable, and dtop when you feel you've had enough.
