Are there any heart problems/disease, that warrant having to have a special diet?

That is, must any foods be banned from your diet, IE: gluten free, or no eggs, or dairy, or potatoes, etc.

Apart from the health aspects most people can derive from cutting down on some foods, (perhaps especially heart patients) would any heart problem be exacerbated or fatal by eating certain foods?

The one that immediately springs to mind is high cholesterol, buts thats circulatory rather than heart. If someone is overweight then any heart problem would be exacerbated by their weight, so cutting out high fat foods would be part of a healthier lifestyle.
richard has covered the main food things

cholesterol tends to go hand in hand with heart problems/stroke etc (and don't forget they are all the same thing - lumps of stuff that block your arteries and kill the surrounding tissue

don't forget about stopping smoking
and a small glass of red wine a day is supposed to be good for you (my specialist "ordered" me to hit the bottle)

some things hinder - or amplify drugs as well

brassicas (brussels etc), grapefruit will hinder your cholesterol tabs

garlic, cranberries alcohol etc amplify the effects of warfarin

if you're just wondering google and the NHS site are good

if you've had a chest tightener - you should have had a session with the pharmacist and dietitian to tell you what's relevant to you

and angina is more likely to hit when it's cool/cold, damp and windy

Great, thanks guys.

BUT, is there a heart problem/disease that if you ate a certain food/foods you would drop dead?

A woman I know is telling me that her doctor told her she must not eat certain foods or she will die almost instantly.

I reckon this can't be true.
Load of b@lls.
don't eat 6" nails.
sara....why is 6inches so pertinent for you ?
errr..... iron overload!

5" would never do ;o)

Didn't think so.

This woman has Munchausen's I swear!

She's 60 & only in the last month has had........

1: Whooping Cough
2: Pneumonia (double)
3: Rumbling appendicitis
4: Pleurisy

All non hospital or needing anti-biotics or any sort of medication. Her doctor is wise to her. She always gets better from just staying in bed.
sounds like 6" wouldn't go amiss there ether
she needs someone to give her something to moan about
(think about it)
