I have an old boyfriend who is an awesome guy. We never really got over eachother. I've been wanting to say something for awhile, I keep thinking about it, but I just want to say I'm sorry for the way things turned out and let him know that he is a awesome person. Because I don't think I really showed appreciation to how good he was to me. Should I say something to him? Or just let it be?
Over thirty years ago I said the wrong thing to someone I really admired. I still wish I could apologise but it would definitely seem weird now. The longer you leave it the more unlikely it will become.
Do you know when his birthday is? Send him a card. Say how glad you were to know him. You are allowed to say nice things on someone's birthday without seeming weird. Keep it brief and definitely don't "spill your guts" as we say in .au.
You don't really need to say you are sorry for how things turned out. Focus on the good bits. He would rather that too I'm sure.
