Family hope he will be home to celebrate his 80th birthday in August - shame the family of the train driver won't have him home to celebrate his birthday.

Hello there (and thanks) Mrs Chappie.
Pickle is STILL in the Mental Centre(we musn't call it a hospital!).
There seems to be little (according to them) that they can do for him,now they have "fried" his brain with the ECT!
They hope to discharge him in about 2 weeks,and after that it will be care in the (isolated country area) community.
Going by my experiences of this (physically) it means little,and even less if you have Mental Health problems.
However,I will pass on your regards,and maybe,just maybe,you may see "In A Pickle" next to posts in the near future?

The point is, he would be a free man now, and would have been for many years, had he served his sentance originally.

He spent his healthy years, the years in which he should have been inside, in comparative luxurious exile in foreign climes.

He is now serving his time at the end of his life.

So, I couldn't give a tinker's cuss whether he is old and frail, he should serve the remainder of his sentance and if that means he dies in jail, well boo bloody hoo. Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

have just come back to this thread and yes I wholeheartedly support extended jail sentences for any sort of violent crime (gun/knife/fists) - it is never acceptable and can never be condoned. anyone who supports it and/or uses violence needs to be punished as vigorously as the (lamentable) law allows. I do not condone any sort of softness when it comes to violent crimes on innocent bystanders.
