What kind of society are we living in for things like this to happen ?
Her so called Family and Neighbours should be thoroughly ashamed for not checking up on her once in awhile. It is a ' f*ck you Jack I'm OK' attitude that seems to prevail these days !

Apologies to seajaypea for raising the same issue !
I think that's called snychrography. But it's still a really sad story
I don't see why I should be ashamed of not setting up CCTVs to check on my neighbour's movements night and day; I expect he isn't snooping on me either. And if my death goes unnoticed for a few years, I'll be the last person to be bothered.

jno !
You obviously belong to the 'F*ck you Jack ' Society and you are correct in assuming that you will be the last to worry when UR dead. It's the living you need to worry about and you obviously don't give a toss for others with that kind of attitude.
The trainee corpse that lives next door to me could by lying dead for 50 years before I would raise the alarm. For a woman in her 80's she is the most vindictive person you could wish to meat. She has reproted me several times for things which havnt happened and yet when I have reported her she turns on the frail little old lady routine and I get demonised. If I saw her having a heart attack in her garden I wouldnt bat an eye lid anymore. There is sometimes more to these stories than meets the eye.
Don't sit on the fence, sidewinder!
I dont. Last time my kid did that he got a mouthful of the bl00dy coffin dodger.
*off*
redman, your attack on jno was completely unwarranted!
Many people these days don't know their neighbours to chat to.
I don't keep tabs on my neighbours and the only reason I would notice they had gone anywhere is that it would suddenly become a peaceful street to live in!
Agree with daffy 100%
Surely she had bills to pay, eg. gas, electricity, water, council tax. If I didn't pay mine the bailiffs would be round smartish!
Look, guys, as I said on the other thread about this, I've had lots of experiences having to attend scenes where there were dead bodies, mainly called "sudden deaths".

And believe me, after less than a week dead, it wouldn't matter that you'd never spoken to that neighbour for yonks, you'd be absolutely bowled over by the smell coming from the place. It reeks to the high heavens. How anyone can not know?

You'd have to be Michael Jackson wearing the face mask. Bet he pongs a bit now!
not so, redman; I care about people I am close to or related to - which I think is the much same as most people do. But I don't drop in on people I don't know just to see if they're still alive. Do you?
Just curious redman - how many old people in your area are you checking on daily?
If no one visited in 5 years, it's a safe bet to assume she didn't have any family/friends.

As for the f*ck you Jack I'm OK' attitude. It's called looking after your own interests.

Looking after neighbours/helping someone who has collapsed in the street, most people don't want to know because they don't want to get involved. I know someone that helped a man that had collapsed. They were assaulted. Best to leave alone and concentrate on your own life I say.

f*ck you Jack I'm OK' attitude ? Totally.

Thank you all for your replies even the criticisms as it goes to show that we all differ in the views that we take.
80% of the people who live in the Housing Complex where I reside are elderly and I help wherever I can as that is the way I was brought up.
Today I helped 2 elderly Ladies with their problems.
One with a TV/Freeview problem which I fixed and one with a Shopping request as she has mobility problems.
If we live long enough we all get old and frail so for those who look down on the elderly, your time will come !
The problem redman is that helping doesn't always do any good.

If you are a nurse who says she will pray for a patient
nurse suspended

A man that helps an old man in the street
man is assaulted

Help a boy up who has fallen off his bike.
Accused of abuse

All stories that have appeared in the media these past few months.
And the reason they appear in the media is that they're exceptionally rare. To alter your behaviour because of them is ludicrous.

That said, I do think it's unreasonable to castigate people for not following their neighbour's comings and goings.
