Wiring/Replacing Halogen Downlight

I'm replacing 1 of a set of 3 halogen downlights in the hallway ceiling. The single white cable from the mains houses 3 wires (Black, Red & Bare wire), the junction box that connects to the light holder/bulb only has 2 connections (Live & Neutral). My question is, which connects to which, and what happens with the spare wire?

Red = Live
Black = Neutral
Leave the bare (Earth) wire unconnected. It would only be required if you were connecting a metal light fitting which required earthing (which, since you've not got an Earth terminal, your fitting clearly doesn't).

Thanks Chris. Appreciated. That's confirmed what I thought. Plus, I was also going to wrap the Bare (Earth) wire with electrical tape.

Good idea,as you def don't want a loose earth wire anywhere near 'live' terminals.You could then bend it back and use a plastic tie-wrap to hold it secure. Alternatively,you could always snip it just below the white sheath and tape it up....better to be safe than sorry!
