MM Links Solutions July 2009 [Week 1]
18 Answers
The first week in the reign of Queen Julia went perfectly smoothly ~ just as expected from the re-appearance of a popular former MM Links Champion. I now have pleasure in announcing her chosen Link Words under the theme of Keeping in Touch as:
COVER Note
Book MARK
Pen FRIEND
Pencil DRAWING
You may be relieved to hear that no-one scored more than two Points!
My Report been delayed due to an acute attack of Federer-itis & problems on AB!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The game set off two minutes early, due to the fact that the clock on Jools PC was running a little fast. This can happen, although it hasnt happened to me for quite some time. I am sure that no entrant was disadvantaged by this mild hiccup. In fact, it was Entrant #4 in the guise of Grenmus who scored TWO POINTS for BOOK MARK, closely followed by Dustybun, grannydi & centrino each offering Book Mark for THEIR Two Points. Unfortunately, a couple of minutes later, grannydi requested a change in her options ~ involving her dropping Book Mark. I am obliged to agree with any such requests, so I take no pleasure in also cancelling her points.
In the midst of all this drama, the intrepid paulineward tried PEN FRIEND to score the second hit for TWO POINTS, no doubt still suffering from Writers Cramp after replying to entries in our T for Towns Quiz. Surprisingly, no-one followed her lead for the next three hours. However, I did note that fordward broke the 8-letter limit rule with Propelling Pencil (Naughty, naughty)!

Not for the first time, kettledrum came on the scene at 10.45 and picked off the elusive COVER NOTE to pick up her regular TWO POINTS. She was followed by newcomers Gill & Jean Gasbaggertie, who each scored a Hit to register One Point. For their benefit, you can score Two Points by being first to predict a link (or within three minutes of the first predictor).
The last Hit with PENCIL DRAWING was Elspeth as Entrant #33. She was immediately followed by the psychic SHAZZA who scored a double hit with Book Mark and Pencil Drawing for Two Points! I decree that SHAZZA be selected as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!
*** Let trumpets sound and cannon roar ***
*** Let the people cheer and shout Encore ***
The game began its slow wind-down, but not before the Canadian couple, Mr & Mrs Ont-ice, scored one point each! Well done you guys!!

The League Table after this first week is already looking quite interesting:
TWO POINTS: centrino, Dustybun, Elspeth, Grenmus, kettledrum, paulineward & SHAZZA
ONE POINT: BertOnt-ice, JoannaOnt-ice, GillGasbaggertie, JeanGasbaggertie, joto & twixt
There ends the first successful week in the reign of Jools in the Crown.
Next week, I shall be back in the North East ~ acting Father of the Bride to my niece, Andrea.
As far as you are concerned, it should be business as usual, but watch this space.
Until we meet again, this is crofter signing off and wishing you
 HAPPY LINKING!

Well really thought my "Library book" was a sure fire hit !!!! So back to normal.....nil points. What is wrong with my brain ????? Answers on a post card to......well perhaps not !!!!
Congratulations Shazza (hot shot) and thanks Crofter for eventually getting the results on here. Good luck in your Father of the Bride roll next week, hope the sun shines for the wedding.
It is Lichfield Edwardian Market all around the cathedral next Saturday and I am helping on local Hospice tombola (in fact my house is full of the prizes) so I am hoping for sunshine too!!!

Hi Jean and Gill G ~ I think it's best described as 'Viive la difference!' by general concensus. Whichever you prefer there's sort of something for everyone! If the great SatNav in the sky could look down and picture about 20 or so of us eejits, champing at the bit, rushing to type in the first bit of nonsense (lucky or otherwise) that comes into our heads, you'd understand! If the time element was changed it wouldn't be half as much fun. D :0)
Gill & Jean, I can understand the dilemma caused by the issue of timing, but as Dustybun says "It adds to the fun!"
Don't forget that on MM Links, we have complete control over when the launching takes place of the words to be linked, whereas the KM Link Words become available in the (very) early hours of the morning!
Also high scorers on MM Links will eventually take responsibility to set Link Words for the following month!

I take your point Ont-ices, but even if we were to double your points (as if by bonuses) your scores would still be too low to become the next setter!
Further, if you were to win, it would mean at least FOUR very early rises for you to launch your Saturday morning challenges.
It's a bit of a White Elephant, I'm afraid.
