1 year old cat/kitten

Hi all

a year ago my girflfriend and i bought a kitten. she has jut turned 1 but she seems to now want to be on her own all the time.

She used to sleep at the end of the bed by our feet but know wants to sleep in the hall way.
She used to sit with me and walk all over my folders as i worked from home , now she just sits in the hall.

this all started about a month before the hot weather come.

she is a house cat and our only pet. when we try and play she does not seem that interested except from about 22.00 onwards.

any help would be ppreciated thanks

Cats NEVER do what is expected of them,and yours is growing up. They will change their ways to suit themselves.....and yours may be affected by the recent hot weather. The hallway may be cooler due to cross-ventilation,which is why she prefers to be there rather than on your bed. Her instincts are to be nocturnal....which could explain her playfulness at such a late hour. As long as she seems happy in herself,and is eating normally- I would not worry too much.

Our cat changes with the seasons.

Certainly with the hot weather he has been sprawling in unusual places, and prowling the garden at night.

Come the cool weather your little one will seek out warm laps and spots again.

Hmmmmm....they like to place themselves in the line of your feet...across doorways....in the middle of any cool hard floor......even on steps,as mine does.

Apparently a 1 year old cat is the equivelant of a 15 year old stroppy teenager - and what 15 year old wants to hang about with their parents? Also I have 3 cats and they spend all their time sleeping in the hallway at the moment. Although it was a month before the really hot weather came in, it was probably still hot for cats, remember they are wearing fur coats and I've always find mine sleep more and eat less from about May till September. She's also not a kitten anymore so she'll probably never be as playful as she has been up till now, but she will probably become more settled and affectionate as she gets older. Hi HH...as pasta said, as long as your cat is eating and drinking ok, there does not seem to be any cause for worry. CAts have their own little personalities and will suit themselves. It is quite typical of them to sleep most of the day and then come evening/nite time, they will start running round like crazy and doing weird things.
Only a thought - you did say she/he is a house cat, so i guess she has never been let out. I would venture an opinion that the fluffy one's feral instincts have been awoken and cos she is sleeping in the hall-way (near a door???), may want to get out at night into the big bad cat world of mice and stuff.....only a thought!!

She wants to go out, it's as simple as that. She's trapped because she's not allowed out. She can't talk but she's sure as hell dropping hints by sitting in the hallway.

Cats are free spirits. Yes, they love us to feed them and give them home comforts, but they also love to be able to come and go as and when they please.

It won't get any easier as she matures, it's her instincts telling her that she wants to go explore. And although female cats don't roam as far as males, believe me they still love to get out into the big wide world, even if that only means putting a little lead on her, as if she were a dog, and walking her round the garden or some green space.

We have cat flaps for our two moggies, one of each, and they come and go day or night. They'd be unbearable otherwise. Think about it: how'd you like being shut in all the time? How infuriatingly frustrating when your instincts are screaming at you and they're being denied, no matter how unwittingly.

Further to my "tuppenceworth", could I perhaps also suggest that you get her a little friend if it's somehow impossible for her to get out?

She's obviously bored rigid being shut up 24/7.
