I have an oil on canvas painting of a beach with figures who looked dressed in 19th century style.The artist is D.Long.
Anybody heard of him?

Hi big yankee. This Painting does it have a date with the signature? a picture of it would be useful? In the meantime I will see what I can discover OK?

There is no date but I did contact an artist called David Long who lives in Ireland and sent him a photo of the painting. It wasn't his. I'm not sure how to get a picture on answerbank

big yankee, you can put a picture on an image-hosting website like tinypic or imageshack - you just upload it from your own computer (if it isn't on your computer, photograph it and load it on). Then just print the link the site gives you.

Sorry, never heard of D Long, though.

I too have never heard of 'D Long' I have a canvas by a B Long which I have tried to find more about. There is A Bert Long and a Ben Long mines is none of these artists. I have found others with similar style pics to mine with the same signature. My guess is that it probably comes from a factory in china which pour out good quality painting with similar signatures to well know artists. Where did you buy your canvas from?

Both the canvas and frame are english made. The painting was bought in Yorkshire about 15 years ago approx size is 75cm x 60cm

It does not sound like your painting is one that is produced in China. These are sold as Canvas by street sellers. Have bought 3 myself, the first 2, I was told were by art student's for their finals and the 3rd most recent the B Long supposed to be by a Dutch Peruvian artist. All bought in Edinburgh.
