You should be able to change the entry to correct a mistake - it's called re-registration.

Contact your local Registration Office
I dont understand.

Did you put another man's name on his birth certificate knowing full well who the real father was? Or did you leave it blank to begin with. If that's the case it's not incorrect is it? Just not filled in?

you knowingly named the another man on your child's birth certificate? I'm not even sure whether you've commited an offence...
If you put a father's name on the birth registration that man has to have accompanied you to the register office in the belief that he was the father, or because you had decided he would be the person you considered to be a suitable alternative to the biological father. i think now you will have to get a court declaration to amend the original registered name with possibly DNA testing as proof.
I'm hoping that's not what louise meant Sara.

If she did mean she knowingly put another mans name on there i'm downright disgusted. Every child deserves to know who their real parents are, and to put down your current sleeping partner is appaling.

see sect 4(1)(d)

if that's what you've done , it would be perjury.
Can't believe any 'mother' would do this to their children.

Whether or not they feel the father is a waste of space the child needs to, and should be able to, discover this by themselves not by some person bad mouthing them.

i dont really understands what your asking here louise, are you saying that you put the wrong fathers name down and now want to change it cause you think hes a waste of space, and that your new partner ''deserves'' to be called the father? Or is it a case of you didnt know who the father was when you registered your son and have since discovered who is? i hope its the latter as if you are looking to change it just because you feel the named father is a'';waste of space'' then that is soooo wrong. Despite what you may think of your ex, your son deserves the right to have both mother and fathers name on his certificate. legally i dont think you will be allowed to do that anyway, not at least without your ex's consent.
its your choice but the best thing to do is leave it blank i havent got my real dads name on my birth certifficate i have my brothers farthers name there im 25 n wish that it was blank as that relationship dint last long
Leaving it blank is NOT the best thing to do at all!
You have the wrong name on yours and its left a bitter taste in your mouth - some people say really stupid things
My son has his real father on his birth cert, his real father is a waste of space and has had zero contact, no maintaince etc, but the end of the day he is my sons biological father and nothing can change that. My partner is dad to my son they have bonded and its great my boy has this chance of having a fatherly figure.
Im not ashamed that my sons real father plays no part, its out of my control but when my son is old enough and wants to he can discover who is real father is and that side of family is etc. Just because I think his real father is a waste of space it does not mean my son will.
Birth cert is a legal document and in time will answer questions for my son wheather I like it or not!
