Anybody know the name of this tv series

I remember watching a tv series back in the 90's or so.
It was science fiction, but took place in present time, the main characters was a female scientist, her colleagues and some people born with a genemutation that made them as different from humans as apes are (but they still looked human). Some of the people with the mutation was evil and the story was mostly about the heroes trying to stop them.
Anybody know what the series was called, cause I just ca'nt seem to find it anywhere...

I think it might be Prey.It ran for one series of 13 episodes in 1998.Debra Messing starred.IMDb sbould have details.
