Hi, what should the program be for opening .zip folders and files? Mine has become associated with a photo editing program, (don't ask) and I can't open them any more. I have Windows Vista and want to put the association back the way it was before it was tampered with.

I don't use Vista but, from this thread, it seems that you simply need to associate zip files with explorer.exe

thanks for repyling Chris, you are right about these .zip files and folders being associtated with Explorer. The problem was I could'nt change it back as there wasnt an option to do this in the list that came up. I even unistalled the program it had mistakenly become associated with and it reverted back to default, but as soon as I re-installed the program, the association came back. I finally had to use system restore (a bit drastic I know) but it worked and things are now back to normal.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad you've sorted out the problem. However, if anything similar happens, this should work:

Right-click on the icon for any zip file.
Select 'Open with'
Select 'Choose program'
Click on 'Always use this program to open files'
Select 'Other'
You can then navigate to the location of the explorer.exe file. (If in doubt, run a search for it before following these instructions).
Double-click on explorer.exe.

That technique should work even when the program you require isn't in the list initially offered by your PC.
