Marge B suggested I should try a lens cleaner to solve my CD/DVD drive problems.  Can anybody suggest a good one and where it is offered most cheaply?

The drive is a Philips DVD +- RW8631, but I don't know if that's important information or not!

Normally I'd seek advice from someone with more (any) expertise before heeding MargeB's words but I'll stop being argumentative. Just in this *one* thread, mind.

or search anywhere for "lens cleaner".

I'm sure shops such as HMV and your average computer shop will sell something similar.
Don't waste your money on a lens cleaner, your CDROM/DVD drive is knackered and cleaning won't help it.
Bl**dy Hell Ipaqowner - talk about putting the fear of god into someone!

Using lens cleaners on CD/DVD lenses are rarely recommended by manufacturers, but if its not working then what have you to lose!

Ipaqowner was probably right - I bought a lens cleaner (12.99) and it made absolutely no difference whatsoever.  So, 12.99 is what I had to lose!
