This is car-azy. I'm getting insurance quotes for my Golf. The questions on the online sites are asking what kind of alarm/imobiliser is fitted. I rang the supplying VW garage and all they could say was it's fitted with an imobiliser. But I'm faced with questions on sites that say, is it standard fit 1, standard fit 2, Thatcham 1, Thatcham 2 etc. There's nothing in the Golf's handbook, nothing in the VW brochure and clearly even the VW Garage didn't seem to know. It's a VW Golf Match FSi 115 2007 57 plate that came straight from the factory, I didn't have any extras. Has anybody out there got a similar car or does anybody know. You'd think this info would be easy to get hold of wouldn't you. I don't recall having this question asked before. Thanks ever so everybody. PS this is not a girly problem, my hubby couldnit find out either :-)

It will be a standard fit Bizzylizzy, If it was a Thatcham it would state on one of the windows.
Hi, I have a VW Jetta TDi SE on a 57... If you go through comparethemarket.com for a quote and enter the reg it comes up automatically with something like 'VW Standard alarm / immobiliser II' which I just left in the box. Worth a try! Good luck.

Many thanks both you. After the supplying dealer looked on their system and said, there's no alarm, just the immobiliser, I couldn't believe that to be true. So I phoned VW, yes they said, the alarm was part of the spec for the Match model. We rocked the car backwards and forwards but no alarm went off. Then we remembered that we might have disabled any alarm when our dear dog was with us, so that she didn't set it off. Sadly she died last year and it seems we forgot to turn the alarm back on. We found the switch inside the car, switched it on, and the alarm sprang into action. So much for the main dealer's info. Hopeless or what. What a fiasco this has been. Daresay we've only ourselves to blame.. but middle age does tend to render your memory not as efficient as it used to be .. that's my excuse anyway. Thanks again for your help.

Whoops, meant to say, according to VW, it is a Thatcham 2 immobiliser but there was nothing on the window for some reason.
