Charity Credit Cards

I've received some stuff through the post from Oxfam, and the offer of a credit card of which 25p of every �100 (0.25%) I spend goes to charity. I've seen cashback credit cards that offer 1-2% cashback, so are the banks making money from charity cards?

I was tempted to get one, but now think it's a bit of a swizz, even though it's not me losing out.

Anyone agree?

A lot of credit cards that initially offered 1+% cashback have now dropped to the 0.25% rate.

I believe the reasoning behind this scheme is that any reward you earn goes to the charity instead of being paid to you.

I've just looked online and you can still get 1-2% easily.

I understand the concept of the cards, just can't understand why the credit card issuers can't pay 1-2% to the charity instead of a measly 0.25%

so if u spend a cool 1000 pounds on your credit card then u know that the charity gets �2.50 and u end up with high interest charges to pay it off??

Why not just pay the �100 in cash and save yourself interest payments while donating 50p instead of 25p to oxfam?

Yes you can get 1-2% easily but only from a few card providers with cards that offer no tie up with a charity. (I will probably be corrected over that statement).

The vast majority of cards do not offer such a high rate of reward and you will find that the charity cards offer the same rate to the charity as they do to their customers.

Ultimately the choice of card you prefer is up to you.

It is a bit of a swizz but everything helps I guess. If you spend �8000 on your plastic in a year they get �20, which if you earn �18,000 a year amounts to 0.0011% of your earnings. Get a card that gives YOU the benefits and donate something on the side perhaps?
