Burnt Out Clutch!

Last week i was given company car which had been a previous employees car there is 33k on the clock. Yesterday after me adding about 500 miles mostly motorway the clutch burnt out. Could i be to blame or is it something that as happened over time and yesterday was breaking point. (The front two tyres are almost illegal)

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I presume it is a modern diesel engine. They do require the clutch to be slipped slightly or they can stall when setting off but some people get a bit carried away with the slipping.
I have seen them done in by particularly bad drivers at as little as 10k - but as derek rightly says it is nothing to do with you unless you spent 500 miles hill starting with a caravan in tow!
