Has this bogey 'The European Human Rights Convention', now gone yet another step too far?
How can we still embrace its obvious protections, but get rid of some of the rulings that seem to protect the criminal more than the law abiding members?

It is yet another example of the ECHR overriding the wishes of the UK Parliament. I have yet to come across a recent Human Rights ruling by the European Court which did not benefit criminals, illegal immigrants or minority groups seeking exemption from the laws which the rest of the population have abide by.
This latest episode makes it compulsory for a review to take place of those who have been ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life. The first review that is undertaken where no change is recommended will result in an immediate appeal to the European Court to overturn the decision. You can guess what the result of that hearing will be.
The UK has lost the ability to deal with criminals in the way it thinks fit. All those anxious parents who want to see convicted paedophiles placed under strict control when they are released can think again.
As I have said many, many times, this will not change unless we repeal the 1998 Human Rights Act, withdraw as a signatory to the ECHR (which has outlived its purpose and is being abused). Since we will have to withdraw from the EU to achieve the latter it is not going to happen.

oh Dear AOG, you seem to be under the impression that the "Human Rights" legislation is to protect human rights!
No no no! It is so that the masses can be ridden rough shod over by lawyers, getting paid by us to win judgements for their criminal scum friends. The human rights of most of us are abused every day by the act. for example do I have a human right to put barbed wire on my fence to protect my property? Nope because some sub human piece of sh1t may cut himself whilst trying to rob me. His human right to steal in safety is far more vital to the nation than mine to not be burgled.
His Tonyness ratified it into law so his Mrs can make a packet defending jailbirds who don't line the colour of their en-suite bathroom or can't get a game on the snooker table.
Hell in hand cart? Oh yes!
Get on message AOG!

The European convention on Human rights is there to protect humans
Not lawyers, not criminals, not Policemen - humans
Not all Human rights apply to all people a criminal does not have the right to travel, but some like the right to life do.
Now I know it's upsetting to many of the rabid, pitchfork, wielding brigade who would like to see hanging drawing and quartering brought back for certain crimes.
And "It's a detterent" is great justification for "Satisfying blood lust".
But underpinning the convention is the idea of justice
And Justice requires certain rights to even those convicted of the most henious crimes. Rights like a fair trial, sentences that are based on the crime and not how loud the mob is baying
That's what makes it justice and not vengance
You do believe in justice don't you?
(and spare me the where's the justice for the victim ? monologue - it's getting very boring )

So what about the rights of children to not be abused by kiddie fiddlers then? We never needed actual legislation, we used to have something far more powerful, common sense, I'm sorry if the "ooman rights" of a bunch of kiddie fiddlers are in someway curtailed then I'd rather have that than one extra case of abuse.
How do you decide what a human right actually is. Is it my human right to defend my property against thieving scum? No it's not it would seem.
The trouble is jake it's all well intentioned but the whole thing is easy meat for prison touring lawyers to get legal aid cash by pursuading Burglar Bill he can get compo and changes made if his phone card has run out.
The intention is laudible but in reality the human rights of the masses are abused my minor irrelevant twaddle.
ECHR, HR legislation, non of it needed in what purports to be a civilised nation.

It depends on what the offence was for. Someone that is caught in the woods playing with themselves at 2am could be on the sex offenders register for life if the juge said so as would someone that raped a 10 year old.
I would grade the sex register. Grade 1 being worst. All grade ones on it for life but lesser cases such as man convicted of touching a womans bottom in a night club is grade 5.
Certainly the serious cases have no reason for complaint.
