Saying thank you, Tuftibri
18 Answers
Why is it too much trouble for people to say thank you when others answer their queastions? I have taken note of those who do not say thank you and will not help them in future. Earlier I gave several crossword answers with explanations, but will not again to those who have no manners to say thank you. Of course, if I find out they were suddenly taken ill, or having their tea or something I might just forgive them .............

In the past I have gone to a lot of trouble sometimes to get an answer. Often turning a problem over in my mind for some hours where it is not a straight forward google. Then there is nothing. No acknowledgement, no thanks, no stars and I end up wondering if they ever bothered to look. I am gradually coming here less and less and this is one of the reasons.
I am more than happy to help with an answer as much as I like help sometimes. I think it is bad manners not to say thank you. In future I will keep a list of those who never say thank you and will point this out when they next ask a question, at the same time not giving them any help. I suggest others do the same. I have had no response from the person I posted about. Perhaps they did not see my complaint. But I will never help them again. Thanks to the people who replied to me.
Well, it is their loss, as I often find a thank you leads to a further comment and a real dialogue with a fellow ABer, which is always fun. I get a bit peeved when people ask for quick help and you rush an answer in and then there is no clue as to whether they ever saw it. However.... there's nowt so queer as folks, as my late neighbour from Rossendale used to tell me.
They don't necessarily have to go into 'My Profile'. If they are wanting an answer they need just to go back into Crosswords or whatever, scroll down to their question, see if their is an answer and think "Bingo, an answer, must thank them for that", and click on to Post an Answer. Easy. Are you reading this Tuftibri? Anyway, I have made a note. Thanks for all the others support.
first of all, i hope tuftibri is not offended by this very public attack. i know i would. i enjoy replying to people who answer my queries, mostly because i enjoy the banter that sometimes follows, but i wouldn't be offended if they didn't reply to any replies i was able to give. ( i don't think i've been able to help anyone as yet, though, too thick). it's only a game, though a very enjoyable one totterdown, don't resort to retaliation., it's not nice.
bunty, I don't think you will find I have used any offensive language, just pointing out other people's bad manners in not saying thank you. As they cannot make a phone call or write a letter surely a thank you on here is not asking too much. If anyone takes the trouble to help me in ways with anything I would always say thanks. I have only continued this thread because others have (and overwhelminly agreed with me). I should hardly think Tuftibri is offended - embarassed maybe. Thats even if he/she has bothered to look at these replies. Getting the answers to the puzzle is maybe all that he/she wanted. But if he/she asks again, I will point it out. Your opinion of this certainly has not changed my view. Why should it?
Oh, do get over yourselves! Many people finish their questions with "Thanks in advance" or similar and the pleasure should be in sharing our knowledge and helping others. Admit it, a lot of us get a nice warm feeling just being able to help and the idea of refusing to help people who don't award stars is about as constructive as the spoilt brat who takes his ball home because someone has bowled him out. Shouldn't we be a bit above this? It takes a modicum of intelligence to solve some of these clues and we are posting comments like petulant primary school children.
Everyone has their own opinion - I have mine. I am not sitting here seething with indignation. I really don't care what others think of my stance and throwing around words like "spoilt brat" and "petulant" made me smile rather than feel browbeaten. I am answering other people's comments but am quite happy to leave it completely now.
