why are ryanair allowed to insist on a passport for domestic flights! Surely travel within your own borders should be allowed on photo id

OK they no longer accept driving licenses...
Why are they allowed to do this? because they can ask for whatever they want when you get on their plane, if they wanted to insist that all passengers carry a green and pink bag they would be perfectly within their rights to do so.
