if the xbox is so superior to the ps2

then why has the ps2 outsold it year afer year after year? bearing in mind they are a similair price

Because it isn't superior. More power doesn't mean better. The PS2 still has the really great games. The xbox is missing titles like final fantasy, and GT. I have both, use my xbox to play games that my PC can't.I play most on my PS2 .

the reason is that altho the average gaming age is rising it still is predominantly a childrens plaything and ps2 just carried on where the playstation left off in terms of fanbase.my bet would be if u surveyed children then most would own a ps2 but if u surveyed adults most would have an xbox.

mikeyp - more power doesnt mean better ?! of course it does ! it can produce graphical effects that the ps2 cant and it plays games in dolby 5.1 ! i think you are talking more about quantity over quality of titles.

the xbox is missing ps2 titles but ps2 is also missing xbox exclusives too eg halo to name but one.

i think u will find that Playstation 1 started the Sony superiority, they had that out and trouncing the likes of sega and nintendo long before microsoft were thinking of gaming! then PS2 came out and that was the real dominant force far better than sega or nintendo could ever produce and with backward compatability was able to take the old playstation users and new ones to a new level, Then microsoft decided 18 months later to release there console when there was a huge headstart by sony. The lack of good titles in certain genres is simply due to lack of time on sale! Forza motorsport has only just recently been released to try and take on GT and in the last 12 months they are converting hits like grand theft auto over to there machine too. so what they are trying to do is play ctch up with sony.

The concept with XBox by bill gates himself was to not beat anyone, but merely build and sell a console worthy of being in the marketplace and to get a foothold and fanbase started on the market, and they actually expected to be behind sony and nintendo in sales. The Xbox actually exceeded even there expectations by not only getting into the market and accepted but beating nintendo significantly month on month with sales and closer to Sony they ever expected, even outselling them for two months straight over xmas.

With Xbox360 they are releasing this a possible 6 to 9 months ahead of PS3 and already has a fanbase and high proportion of users similar to PS2 had when it was released, and with backward compatibility is following what Sony did. The main goal of the Xbox 360 is to gain ground on Sony and within 12-24 months of release to push past Sony PS3 sales and become a true No.1 console on the market.

oh and halo 2 is the biggest selling entertainment product ever breaking opening day sales that even the likes of Spiderman 2 and Star Wars 3 films couldnt beat on there opening days, so there is top selling games out there for Xbox, and u wont get it on PS2 simply for 2 reasons, 1)microsoft would never allow a cash cow like halo to end up on there opponents machine, and 2) the system requirements of  Halo 2 are to high for a PS2 so PS2 isnt superior on power and it does make a difference having power because without it then no Halo 2!

Could it be something as simple as 'fashion'? If the Apple Ipod outsells better and cheaper opposition simply because it is/was trendy to own one,them why not the same for the PS2.

Because the Xbox is made by Microsoft.
