Steamers - can I put more than one thing in each basket?
6 Answers
Thanks to the wonder of Freecycle, I have become the proud new owner of a steamer. I have never used one before, but hear it is easy and healthy.
I have found some instructions online so have the basics sorted. However, the baskets are MAHOOSIVE and, as you will see from chatterbank, I am cooking a roast for 4 today so won't be needing loads of veg. I am doing peas, green beans and carrots. I don't think the quantities warrant separate baskets.
Am I ok to put mixed items in the baskets? The beans take longest, so can I just add the carrots after a while, then add the peas? Or should I use separate baskets?
Ta muchly.

I put the carrots in the bottom, the beans in the second deck and ended up microwaving the peas! It took quite a lot longer than the instructions said though, nearly 25 minutes for the beans and carrots to be done. The water made uber yummy gravy though!
Does anyone have any fantastic recipes for the steamer cos I'm feeling adventurous now! I don't like fish though.
Thanks!
