skimming drywall

I am trying to skim a drywall. I have pva'd the wall first. I mix the plaster in a bucket water first then sprinkle in the powder and mix with a proper mixy drill attachment, till its the correct consistancy and start plastering but after 1min the plaster 'goes off' in the bucket? I am using thistle finishing plaster. Please can anyone help!!

agree with the builder-most likely an old bag of plaster
also make sure your mixing bucket is clean

why have you pva'd the drywall?

The plaster was new just bought from B and Q. It is thistle finishing plaster and it was suggested to me to PVA it first so the plaster would not dry out too fast when it went onto the plaster board.

Never heard of PVAing plasterboard before

you want board finish and check the sell by date never heard of sealing the boards,if you are not conversant with this ? are you up for the job? as it is a fine art, no offence intended hth Tez

Hi, some good answers here. One other bit of advice I would give is to buy the plaster from a builders merchant. They use a lot more of the stuff so it should be fresher and less likely to go off so quick. In these DIY stores it could have been on the shelf for while.

Just txt my partener he is builder. Plaster is definately out of date or you have mixed it to stiff
