If you have the opportunity please read the article in todays Telegraph about the value of doing a daily crossword.

The findings in the survey confirm what a lot of us have long believed- you can delay the memory loss associated with dementia by the daily mental exercise of a crossword.

As I fall in the age bracket the survey covered it is nice to know I have another year and four months of good memory.

I loved the story of the gentleman who wondered if it was cheating to go on-line searching for solutions - he is 98!

Thanks for posting that link Judy.

There is actually a comment piece on the article in today's Telegraph from their Medical correspondent, another comment from the Crossword Editor and a Leader on the centre pages.

Regards K
All good stuff from the DT but some while back the Doctor who wrote weekly in Radio Times wrote a similar article (Dr Graham ? or am I being forgetful ?) and it appears RT were inundated with Xword solutions that week .
I think that you K will still be as sharp as a needle in 20 yrs time judging by the amount of help you offer - it's why I referred to you as our "Special K" a few weeks ago, & Kelloggs say they are good for the senses.

Thanks marray.

As these days I mainly do the bar grid puzzles, I don't always do my quota of 11 per week and I enjoy coming on here to see if I can help with the standard crosswords.
It may be true but we just don't know for sure- a lot more money into research is needed.
By the way, my mum was crossword crazy all her life and used to do the hard guardian ones and even won a prize once in one newspaper, but she died a couple of years ago from Alzheimers so I'm not convinced.
Kayakamina - Thank you for posting this thread, it made very interesting reading. I come into the age bracket mentioned and if i don't get my daily crossword I get withdrawal symptoms.!! I also spend a lot of time playing cards on line so perhaps there is hope for me in the long run.
In passing - thank you for the help you very often give me with the Daily Mail.
Thank you also JMR27 for the link otherwise I wouldn't have able to read it.
Regards Jean..
