ford puma car alarm

I have a Ford Puma and the alarm suddenly won't set. There are usually two ways to set it - either with the key fob (no, the battery isn't flat) or by double locking the door - and neither work, the locks only lock once and the hazzards don't flash. The central locking still works, but the boot press button doesn't which means I have to open the boot with the key. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas before I ask a Ford garage.

Check all your fuses, it should be obvious if any are burnt out. Try replacing it once but if it goes again there must be another fault.
I get these sort of problems on my Sierra when the weather gets cold and damp. You could try cycling the locks from each of the doors several times. This usually works for me.

If you find its none of the above, you could try re-setting the radio/infra-red signals between the car and key, this worked for me when i had a similar problem. Here is a link with the instructions, see what you think and maybe give it a try:

Thanks for all that. Without wanting to appear stupid, can anyone tell me what's meant by cycling?

Sorry Tanto -- that just means turning the key one way until the locks lock, then back the other way until they unlock - several times.

In your case as the boot button seems not to work now, assuming it was OK before, perhaps that is the source of the problem. You could try a squirt of WD40 in this area. If there are any visible electrical connectors and they are accessible, you could also try disconnecting these and reconnecting them. Many electrical problems in modern cars are nothing more than mild corrosion of the metal surfaces in the connectors.

BTW Take plenty of cash with you if you do go to the Ford garage!

Hey did you get it fixed? i need help with my puma and you may have the anwser! x

A few years late, but I have had this problem for a few months, Yesterday my car needed some welding for the mot so the garage disconnected the battery. When I picked it up the boot lock and alarm were working again. So powering down the battery may fix this. Make sure you have the radio code before doing this.
