Moving a 13A socket

I need to move a 13A double socket about 4 inches to the left of its present position. When I remove the "face" I hope to find sufficient slack cable to move this distance and would appreciate some advice on moving the box which is plastered flush. I assume that I will cut the wall face sufficiently to move the box. If I do, what do I use to bed the box in its new position? Thanks. Advice appreciated.

may or may not - if it's ring wired the two cables come from either side of the ring (leading to and from the prev socket)
most lectricians are to say the least economical with cable - so slack isn't always available
unless you are comfortable with a bolster - measure the depth ... wrap tape round a masonary bit ... and drill the wall a few times to make it easier to cut when the banging (obviously if it's a partition wall - cut with a good stanley knife - but not the wooden support)
the box should be 1/4 inch below the surface of the plaster
you'll be filling the old hole so slap a bit behind the box - push it down so it sits firmly - then fill the rest of the hole and it will hold ok
additionally if you feel better
no more nails will make a semi permanent job (you'll never get it out!!)
or drill and fix with a couple of short screws - but don't go through the wall

It is unlikely that you will find enough slack on the cables (or it could be a spur and that will be one cable T+E) .
There are many different scenarios to how to do this and it hard to explain on the net how to do this so give us a ring on 07883819103 and you can withold your number but I think that you know that this is the real knobby that lives near you well about 7 miles away as you saw Jades processiong when she kicked it
