I think it's an old Scots-Irish word.
"I'm living in Drumlister in clabber to the knee..."

I found this in wiki - clabber (originally "bainne cl�bair", from Gaelic bainne - milk , and cl�bair - mud). Clabber passed into Scots and Anglo-Irish meaning wet, gooey mud, though it is commonly used now in the noun form to refer to the food or in the verb form "to curdle".
