If you have a partner and they work more than 24 hours a week then you can only claim contribution based Jobseekers Allowance, which is only payable for 6 months and then stops. Currently its about 56 a week. If you only claim this benefit you are not eligible for housing benefit or council tax rebate.
If you have no partner, or your partner doesn't work, and you have children, you will be entitled to more. Contact an adviser at the local Job Centre ASAP. You cannot backdate your claim.
the simple answer is YES u are legal entitled to make a claim and be accepted for redundancy but u may need to ask the company to put it into writing that u are being made redundant through no fault of your own as proof u arent lying. if u do have this then the benefit system will hapily process your application for u as it is your right, however how much if anything u receive all depends on your situation regarding where u live who with, married and children , savings in the bank etc!
The only reason they may be awkward in accepting your application to be proccesed is if u havent proof of redundancy as they wont pay out benefit for a minimum period such as 26 weeks if it seems u walked out of your job for no apparent medical reason(with docotrs certificate and letter) or redundancy, as it is seen as u were fit and able to work for a company still wishing to offer u the same job,
My advice is to make sure u get a letter from your previous company ASAP and then go down to the jobseekers place and ask them about all that u need to claim, they will then photocopy your letter and may even help fill the forms and send them away for u immiedietly
