Why does corn on the cob cost more?
6 Answers
Why is it that corn on the cob costs more per peice of sweetcorn than a large bag/tin of sweetcorn? I thought they were grown in the same way? meaning it would surely cost more to remove the sweetcorn from the cob?

As soon as cobs are cut, the sugar begins to turn to starch, and the flavour deteriorates. I read once that the only way to eat sweetcorn is to grow it yourself and have a saucepan of water boiling at the ready for when you cut the cob. I tried it and it's true - the taste is incomparably better than bought, old, cobs. The next best thing is to buy it frozen; the supplier should have harvested and frozen it very soon after picking.
