What can i do to stop one of my cats peeing on the kitchen worktops? For some reason one of them keeps leaving a puddle on the worktops and I have tried cleaning the worktop with ammonia and various other things but he or she still keeps on doing it? Is there anything I can use or do to deter whichever it is?

cat pee smells of ammonia, so you may inadvertently be encouraging it to 'remark' the spot - also, that may be a little toxic to your kitty! try something lemony or as a last resort, leave ground pepper on the surface. little bu33er won't go near it then. good luck x
Agree with stonekicker. Ammonia will just encourage the cat to keep weeing in the same place. Cut a lemon in half, put it in a bowl and place it on the area. You can then move it when you need to use the work surface.
you could try a spray from your vets called Feliway
It has chemicals to 'mirror' the pheramones a cat gives off so it will smell like they have already been there and wont go to mark it again.

Fingers crossed for you!
Hate to say it..but your cat shouldn't be on the worktop-full stop.
You will have to keep it out of the kitchen as part of re-training it.

thanks for all the tips - apart from keeping the cats out of the kitchen! Bit difficult when the cat door is in the back door, which.......................is in the kitchen!!!! Everyone else, cheers, we will try that!
Put some orange peel on the kitchen tops and maybe rub it allover. Your friend might think you are a slob lol but if you leave it for a daym or two should do the trick.. Cats hate the smellof orange peel.
My cats have always had access to the whole house. They are wormed and sprayed and I must admit have been known to stroll along the worktops! I have no worries, I always clean the worktops before preparing food and I think our current obsession with hygiene is compromising our immune systems. I have kept cats for over 50 years and have never had any health issues to do with cats.

And no, I am not a cranky old lady who lives with 60 cats!!
^^ just 30 of them eh? lol

Id agree with stopping the ammonia, itll encourage it to carry on.

Perhaps also get a spray bottle of water and spray cat when they get on units. .

You guessed Red!!!

My cat has a glass of water on the work surface! It's the only place she will drink and it has to be out of a glass!! Well, actually she drinks from flower vases too. (She has two water bowls down for her on the floor!
