My husband and I have a stupidly large garden (it's 70ft by 20ft) and need a good lawn mower to keep it tidy.

I don't know what type is best? What is a rotary mower? Should I get one with metal blades? One with plastic blades (which we had and cost a fortune in re-buying them)?

The grass isn't very even and my Dad thinks that's why we get through so many of the plastic blades...and that we'll still have prob with a mower with metal blades (it might blunt them).

Any help gratefully recieved. We're the most unikely gardeners but have this amazing huge garden that we want to tidy up and make the most of.

We also have a large garden and recently replaced our 12 old mower with a Mountfied. You can either use it with the grass box on or just block off the hole where it goes into the grass box and it just mulches the grass. Ideal for large lawns as the as by the end of the season the compost heap is huge. Don't ever remember my husband sharpening the blades.
All depends how much you want to spend, I bought a Hayter, expensive, but well worth it. you can use the grass box, best really for the first cut of the year, the after that, just change the position of the lever, and it self mulches.

Only things that go in the recycle bin now, is stuff like weeds etc, no grass to put in at all.
