Looks like 2.0 is about to roll out very imminently and Legend has been the guinea pig.

Just for your information of course this is the message he receives when he attempts to log on............

the real question chuck is HOW DO WE GET AROUND IT

Behave and don't get banned!

I would also hope that the AB team are subscribed to some of the lists of proxy servers so they are banned automatically, I personally would also have a javascript running on the page that detects if a anonymous proxy is being used and blocks it automatically.

I would also go as far as to bring in a two step singup process for all non UK IP addresses that have to be actively approved by the ED before the user could post anything.
who on earth wants ukip involved ???
Oh they've been banned many a time chuck. They forget that I keep turning on 'save history' on MSN.

Your point taken though. My kids are not allowed to use this laptop but the have their own desktop. In that example is it possible for the computers to have different IP's in the same house?
email addresses are on FB Ab.....if I opened another Ab ID & passed it on for another's use - would that work?

should put above in jobs - good earner?;)
If you are with AOL you don't always get the same IP address, so how will the new answerbank get around that ?
no,

each computer in your house has it's own, unique, internal network IP address that is only relevant inside your house, but they all talk to the Internet through a single, shared, public IP address. (which is actually your routers IP address)

it's this public IP address that gets banned.

Chuck-we have all being crying out for this type of moderating for ages.
I'm sick of the foul abuse that has been posted about me and i'm sure that others are as well thus i dont come on at night times as its pointless making the effort as the threads are gone because of trolls.
Thats why I think when 2.0 comes in that there should be a clear line in the sand drawn and everyone starts with a clean slate and if they are banned then they know what its for.
There has been a great deal of complacency on AB and it is mirrored in the way that the weekend for trolls started at 5pm on Friday night right the way though to early Monday morning.
I'm sure that the Ed cannot deny this as he only has to look up AB Suggs etc to see what the general consensus is/was.
yes I do agree dris, surely everyone should be allowed a clean slate when AB 2 arrives, if they want to be abusive then they should expect to be banned.
I haven't had chance to pop on much and keep up to speed with what's been happening, but what I have seen thus far, I have found quite unsettling.

Is this about to morph into a Nanny Forum?
why cant they just bring back the 'report answer' option ? that way individual posts can be removed rather than entire threads, unless the thread deserves it of course.
I agree Dris, but let's ALL be able to start again. That'd seem fairer, and then take it from there.
They are ankou....with AB2. Ed said it in his thread.
I agree, IP banning can be effective, but not fool proof, the only way to deal with the problem is decent moderation.

The eds have been showing a good start by appearing on here late at night and generally out off normal hours and dealing with the trouble makers, I believe this should continue, I would also be on favor of there being user/moderators. If this was ever done then obviously any moderation done by selected users would have to be closely moderated itself to ensure that posts are not being removed just because somebody doesn't like another user, but if that did happen it would be very quickly apparent and that moderator could be removed.
yes agree with all that chuck, the ed is doing a good job but he does not want to be chained to this place eternally. a few moderators in different areas could take some of the burden
Dris can you please ask legend to send me his email address as Drfilth and some of the others are no longer on

Yeah Ice -think thats what cazzz and I both think -clean slate -welcome everyone and let AB monitor THEIR users from scratch !

O and sorry Logic -I meant to answer you but you got lost a bit -I agree with you.I think that when AB becomes little more than a dull site with people posting dull what are you having for your tea threads -which are brill BTW to anyone who does that but imagine if thats all there was -I think it would beome a ghost forum thus no advertising revenue.
I like the banter and for those who dont then dont read the thread and go to another as there are plenty on here -its not just about CB !!!

ABconsultant -wilco!
Thanks for explaining that Chuck. Some time ago I complained about being continually abused by someone on here and asked for a particular answer to be removed but the whole question was banned and my access to answerbank with it. When I questioned this the reply was that I had 50 IP addresses and that was against Site Rules. When I explained that it was a home computer and only my husband and I used it they reinstated me but I never got an explanation. Have you any ideas what it could have been ?
Many Thanks
