Anyone seen the new 3 mobile ad. the one with the oriental music. I've heard the music before but don't know where. Anyone know where its from or what its called?

Hi, neither, I don't think.  I remembered it from my dim distant childhood as a hit song.  I couldn't remember the name of it and I also wanted to know what it was.  My son (who is cleverer than me!) managed to find it on a website, and as soon as he said the name, it rang bells.  It is on a hit album from 1963, so that's how old it is.

Hi again, just done a bit more research.  It went to No. 1 in the US in 1963.  It's apparently the biggest international hit ever by a Japanese artist.  Kyu Sakamoto was killed in 1985 in a  plane crash.  There's more info on a website called www.japanorama.com.  Other websites (search on google) also give the lyrics

After a brief Google search, it states that the song was turned in to a hit in the UK for 'A Taste Of Honey' in 1981 & '4PM' in 1995, both apparently called Sukiyaki

The music in question sounds to me to be similar to the theme tune for a series called "The  Water Margins" which was screened many years ago.
