I dont think so. We have broadband and BT charge us line rental, even though we dont use the phone either.

Though we also have SKY+, and I think that requires a telephone connection as well, so that may also be why we have the telephone line on

Sorry I cant be of any actual help

There is www.now.com who have a radio link, as well as someone who does a satellite connection for serious users. I don't think you'd get away with not paying phone line rental though, or they'd all have to start cutting their prices to compete which none of them want to do.
I'm not quite sure what you mean. There needs to be some sort of line going into your property, even if it's just for the broadband. I'm with Blueyonder (NTL), and you can hire phone, broadband and telly as a package. However, you can hire just broadband if you want to. The package containing phone + broadband may be just as cheap though, or even cheaper.

you can get cable broadband with no phone line, afaik.

Yes, im using it now - (NTL-broadband only) its 9:99 per month.

Just had a look at the link above and there is some small print that says, blueyonder broadband is 9:99*

* when purchased with a phone line.

You can ( provided it is available in your area ) have access to broadband which is completely independant to a phone line. So the answer to your question is a definite YES. I subscribe to a company called IAP Broadband http://www.iapbb.net/ who supply wireless broadband. Basically you have a small aerial on your roof with a small box attached to it. The wire from this is fed inside to a small modem then direct to your PC. You pay your subscription to IAP it doesnt come up on your phone bill so this would work even if you had NO telephone line. Hope this is of use , but do look at the web site link.

With the usual broadband telecom providers (BT etc) you require a normal telephone line to bring the broadband in to your premises. If you have a next door neighbour who is willing to share their connection with you, you could convert their line to broadband paying them the bb rental and running a socket into your property.

Broad band is also available over the satellite system. (Not Astra/Sky)
yes why people pay for line rental amazes me its the same as paying for windows when there is other operating system better and free
