Volvo 440 Petrol Fuel Filter

i posted a question on here earlier regarding the whereabouts of the above mentioned car part , i keep getting conflicting information i still cant find the old filter i was told it was either by the fuel tank (nowhere to be seen ) of by the carb , i purchased a barrel like silver filter a volvo specialist told me it was the wrong one it should be a small plastic one as my vehicle has a choke , i rang back the dealer who sold me the new filter and they said that is the only one listed for all the volvo 400 series motors , so as you can see i'm a little confused at the moment , is there anybody out there who knows what they are talking about , thanks in advance
