Where to go in Thailand
6 Answers
We've been to Bangkok, Koh Samui and Hua Hin. Enjoy people watching in the evening and good hotel / beach in daytime (e.g. Hilton). Can anyone suggest another resort in Thailand we can try ? And best time of year please ? - No rain or not too hot either !

On the far East coast, bordering Cambodia there's Koh Chang... or nearer to Bangkok is the island of Koh Samet but can get busy at w/e and public hols as many Thais go there...
Koh Phi Phi is beautiful... ferries run from Phuket... Krabi is a good point for island hopping off the Western Peninsula...
Up North for a bit of trekking in Chang Mai or Chang Rai... Ayuthaya(sp) the old Capital to the North of Bangkok is good for temples...

... you will get rain wherever you go... its a tropical Country/climate! Down South, one side of the Penninsula tends to be dry when the other is wet during Nov - Feb...
My above suggestions are based on back-packing/beach huts/simple accommodation... I don't have experience of places such as 'The Hilton' (Posh) or big hotels... someone else may be able to advise you better...

While I would agree with snags on Pattaya (unless you want the local prostitutes pestering you the moment you step outside your hotel), I happen to like Patong Beach (Phuket) even if it does have its seedier side.
I would recommend Le Meridien hotel, located about 3 miles south of Patong Beach, it effectively has a private beach and as a result you dont get pestered by the locals.
As for the time of year to go, the rainy season lasts from April to October (our summer), when prices are lowest. A number of hotels in Thailand offer two weeks for the price of one during the rainy season, and if you go at the end of such offers you will normally not see too much rain and save a bit of money.
