Windows or Apple Mac which is best
16 Answers
Having had vista previously and got rid of it, I was looking forward to windows 7 coming out. My cousin knows some people who have been testing it and they say this is rubbish as well. Are Apple Macs better, do they get bugs on them, as I understand they are normally virus free. Also are they reliable, as they are very expensive. Thanks for your help

Every single comment I have read about Windows 7 (from loads of different forums) have been positive.
I have not seen one negative comment, so not sure who these people are who say it is rubbish.
Wait till October and buy a computer with Windows 7 on it.

same as vhg - it's head and shoulders better
"these people" however are using a public beta release which you would expect still to have bugs ... the idea is that instead of whingeing about it they should be feeding hard facts back to Ms so they can fix the bugs ...
macs are different .... that's really all you can say - I seem to remember the last O/s release had some critical problems ... much to their embarrassment ... so it happens to everyone ...
generally speaking creatives use macs
the rest of the world use PCs ....
and that's a reality you need to bear in mind when buying one
games are rarely released for mac the same year they release on PC, there is less software choice in general for macs
if it's got mac written on it ... or the name starts with
i ... as in iPhone iPod iy iy iy - you'll pay a premium ... because .... well I've never worked that one out - and I'm sure that most people have them because everyone else has one
going by the questions here ... most proud owners of iTat can't use 95% of the facilities these wonder machines provide
in the old days - macs caught on because they were the first to show on screen exactly what you could expect to see on paper
these days macs are used in buisnesses which generally make huge profits ... the equipment they use is as much about image as utility these days and image doesn't have a budget - so they charge what they do partly because they can - and partly because the build quality is generally similar to high end PCs

Really? Well they don't do that now...
I use Macs because as a graphic designer, that is what is used predominantly in the industry I work in... on a personally level I like the way they look and I like the operating system...

Apple Mac user nearly 20 years now.....
Almost virus-free platform...
great for design software.....
some software packages, such as watching foreign TV, not done for Mac.
Mac is idiot-friendly......Windows is not...
Mac. Mac. Mac!
Check for service engineers local availability if you do buy either Windows or Mac.

ok... before this thread turns into a PC v Mac bitch-fest... to answer riptide's original question, 'Are Apple Macs better'... I'd say no... depends what you want from your machine... as I said above, for me personally they are perfect... but for others maybe not...
I've never had a virus in near 20years of using them and a crash is a very rare occurrance even when doing complex Photoshop work... I would say they are very reliable...

I started work using a mac classic
4 desks down, the guy had a bigger better mac (layout artist) which had a double a4 paper white monitor which cost more than I'd earn that year
In the days of PC, CGA, wordstar and word perfect
macs were classed as true wysiwyg
what they do now - I neither know nor care ... but I do know PCs do it - if you're saying macs don't - why use 'em?

I seriously doubt 'any' PC - Mac or otherwise can show 'exactly' on screen what you'll get on paper... how can back lit/illuminated colours on a screen be accurate to printed ink on paper?
In the industry I work in this is one of the main gripes... no amount of 'screen callibration' can give you an exact match...
