Whipsnade consists of more than 600 acres of open parkland with large open enclosures. It's very pleasant walking around the park on a fine day but you obviously have to be fit and able to walk distances, although there are visitor buses that drive round as well as a steam train.
My wife and I have become increasingly dismayed the last few years by the rising cost of a day out at Whipsnade. Once you've parked the car and bought a guide book and plan you'll spend about 40 just to get through the gate! It used to be free to take your car into the park but now they charge an extra 11 for that! Food and drink are equally expensive so we take sandwiches and a flask of tea. Whipsnade used to be reasonably priced for a day out but we now grumble - and we can afford it! How much a family visit costs today I hate to think. Be prepared so check the entry and car park prices on-line Davey.
Woburn is divided into two areas named something like 'Foot Safari' and 'Safari Drive'. You can tour the former on foot and there are many excellent enclosures and displays. The other half of Woburn consists of the Safari Drive which is fine if you have your own vehicle. You do have to keep all your windows and sunroof closed and that's uncomfortable on a hot day if your car has no air conditioning (we went one day last summer when the temp. was in the high 80s and my car's heater was stuck on at the time!)
Both are enjoyable days out so have fun.
