Beech tree sapplings growing in lawn

Can anyone help with above. I have a large Beech tree growing at bottom of garden and the nuts from the tree fall into the lawn. Unfortunately the ones that have not been picked up have started to grow and I have a mini forest now growing in the grass. I have tried to uproot them but they are on such a long rooting system that I am wasting my time and making a mess of the lawn. Does anyone know if I can use anything chemically to get rid of them? Thanks.

It depends how big they are, if they are this years growth then just mow over them repeatedly. I have the same situation with oaks and mowing kills off the newly sprouted ones on one mow, last years take probably two or three. If they are older and you don't feel like digging (who does lol) then use a gel weed killer, just paint it on the leaves but don't do this if you have kids or pets, in that case spray as carefully as you can with a glyphosate type killer and reseed/turf afterwards. for future control, as i said, just mow or strim

Thank you for that, actually my husband says the same. They just keep regrowing when we mow over them and they are this years growth, I will try a strongish weedkiller and hope the grass survives if I'm careful.

have you tried setting the mower lower to really slice them off near the ground?
