Blocking off a Fireplace

I want to block off an old unused Fireplace as I want to fit a wall hanging Electric Fire, and am looking for some advice please.

I have looked various websites and it looks fairly easy to brick it up and fit an Air Brick and then a vent grille, but many of these websites mention that I should fit a chimney vent. Is this something different than the Air Brick? I have typed chimney vent into google, but I am not having muck luck in finding out what a chimney vent is.

You need to fit a 'cowl', a sort of a hood over the chimney.
Usually the heat from the fire would dry out the chimney. Without a fire it would get damp.
A cowl stops the rain getting in.
