'sugar free' sugar?

Thus, will "pass straight through" as they say without any calories being absorbed.
Sounds mad and I haven't explained it very well as am only repeating what I've heard from sciency mates.
I have used the no sugar that is made from sugar for some time now ( about three years ) and have suffered no ill effects from it. In fact it was recommended by both my Dr. and Dietician after becomming affected with type 2 diabetes. To me it is takes less than sugar to sweeten, one packet instead of the two or more I had been using. I am talking about SPLENDA.
