'sugar free' sugar?

What is this 'No Sugar' stuff? The advert says it's made from sugar, yet it isn't sugar. How can this be? I'm confused. And what does it taste like? Is it as sweet as sugar? Or does it have a chemical taste like other artificial sweeteners (Saccarine, aspartame, Canderel, etc)? Before I go try some, please advise. Thanks people.

I saw that ad too - it's called Splenda - and was totally confused by it. How can the cakes and stuff be sugar-free when it's made from sugar? I'm very suspicious.

I have been told that it is an artificial replica of sugar, mirroring almost all the elements, ie. consistency, taste etc. but cannot be digested by the human body.  Thus, will "pass straight through" as they say without any calories being absorbed.

Sounds mad and I haven't explained it very well as am only repeating what I've heard from sciency mates.

I tried it and it tastes like chemicals to me!! I prefer my drinks sweetened with sugar, but will drink them unsweetened rather than use a sweetener. My husband says that it doesn't taste of anything to him and doesn't make his tea taste sweetened, he is a canderel user
its made from sucrose, which is actually a sugar, so the 'no sugar sugar' is actually.....a SUGAR!!!!!  but its chlorinated, less calories, and doesn't really work in some dishes where the stickyness of sugar is required.
Why even try this junk? The selling and marketing of manufactured, refined, chemically treated and potentially carcogenic sugar replacements solely on the basis that they contain fewer calories is ludicrous. The advertising presents this product as some kind of revolutionary, futuristic, life transforming advance in science practically verging on magic. This product will not improve your life. Your cakes will be crapper, your tea will cost more to sweeten and it will not make you thinner.
Don't bother. We haven't had enough testing on artificial sweeteners. They may well cause cancer in the future. It is far more sense to buy natural ingredients- cane sugar or brown sugar or whatever they advise in the wholefood shop!! (White refined sugar is also not great for you.)
wood - so you are obviously not a diabetic then. I am sure they all appreciate your sympathy! ;-)
For what it's worth..Do you know that Artificial Sweeteners once it reaches the temperature 86 degrees it turns into formaldeyhyde. Our normal body temperature is 98 degrees. We I found that out, I quit using the product and quit drinking diet soda. Keep that in mind next time you drink a diet soda or add the product to your food.

 I have used the no sugar that is made from sugar for some time now ( about three years ) and have suffered no ill effects from it.  In fact it was recommended by both my Dr. and Dietician after becomming affected with type 2 diabetes.  To me it is takes less than sugar to sweeten, one packet instead of the two or more I had been using.  I am talking about SPLENDA
