oh and minute as in a tiny part of a degree of latitude or longitude. but that 60 seconds and minutes from a meeting are pronounced the same minute as in very small isn't.
as Clanad says, not really homophones, which technically means pronounced the same way. 60 seconds is a minnet, small is my newt. Minute steak is minnet, because it can be prepared quickly.
Now you know why foreigners have such dificulty learning English. I recall a tale told to me some years ago about a person who was studying English & was quite proud of the progress he had made until one day he was walking past a theatre in London & he saw a poster on the wall which stated
''Oaklahoma pronounced success'' which floored him completely.
this reminded me of when my two sons were young.
the eldest, trying to impress his brother described something as minute rather than small. his brother said" can I see your newt "?
