i bought an epson stylus sx405 printer and needed to replace the inks eventually , i was told to try the compatible ones as much cheaper and they have been working ok but today when i tried to print it just came up do not recognise ink cartridges please change so i took them out and put them back in to see if this would help but no luck just same message, so now not able to print anything and there not empty so im baffled !. dont know if to buy epson ones and start again but is there a site recommended for the cheapest price for them at all. Regards.
I had the same problem with Epson and HP, the printer is so clever it recognises its cheapo cartridges. I ended up buying a Kodac where the replacement ink is under 20 for all 3 colours + black!
Ebay may have cheaper Epson cartridges but you have to read it carefully that theyre not just 'compatibles'.
Years ago I took a brand new full genuine cartridge out of an Epson printer to try and sort a problem only to find that it could never be fitted again. I confirmed online that by design, changing an Epson cartridge was a one time event. Period.
Don't know if they still do this but I will never ever consider an Epson product again for the rest of my life and have advised many others to avoid them.
DO NOT buy a HP inkjet. They have endless paper handling problems because of their tortuous paper path.
Throw away the crappy Epson and buy a Cannon if you want a good inkjet printer. I had a 550 model for five years and pumped heaps of refill ink through it without problems until the printhead finally failed.
However I have since bought a laser printer and never looked back.
mmm not looking too good thanks for your replys, have nt had it that long so was nt really looking to have to buy a new printer but i ll see what happens with epson cartridges.
I've had troubles too with the cheaper cartridges in my Epson printer, they seem to work ok for a while and although it shows theres plenty of ink left the printout is v/faint. I use a thick needle take each colour out and poke and prod it (it seems to unblock it) put it back and 'hey-presto' all is well again. Try it you've nothing to lose............
Also irritating is that few (charitable) recycling organisations are interested in Epson cartridges. Apparently they contain a chip and I believe this is where the problem lies with trying to fit compatibles. If you manage to fit one, you may find endless messages from your printware and I imagine the nuisance value is intended to make you give up with compatibles. I understand the 'low' purchase price of the printer is recouped through cartridge sales.
I've got an Epson Stylus DX4050 and buy Rymans own brand for it, they work fine, never had any problems with them, do you have a Rymans near you, maybe worth a try.
