Has anyone signed up for this? i am thinking of renting a row of vines as a gift but thought i'd ask around before buying first!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I haven't signed up for it, but looked at these schemes. Basically they seem a rather expensive way of committing to buy a case or more of wine.
It seems that what you actually pay for is the wine, the row of vines is nominally 'yours' but of course the grapes from those vines go into the tank with all the others and you get the number of bottles you pay for - the wine isn't actually from your grapes.
If you're stuck for a gift for a wine lover then its unusual, but check the prices of deleivery etc as I think you'll find its an expensive way to buy wine.
If they have a bad vintage you're still committed to buying....
