building fire surround

we have an electric realistic stove and and the problem is no chimney breast or open fire area,we want to build a fire surround (brick possibly) to finish effect,but having only a flat wall would this look o.k?any ideas?.

no reason why not Rosee ............ or you could think about a ready made timber surround ....... I think B&Q etc keep them .... the design is the most important thing though .......

i wondered if it would look odd as usually a stove would be inset,i really did want brick style as it would be more in keeping with a stove.
usually, the brick is laid to stand about 100 to 120mm from the wall (about 4 inches or so)............. but it could easily stand out 8 or 9 inches ( 225mm). It's entirely up to you.......... whatever looks right :o)))))
